Victoria Day Reenactment
I belong to a reenactors group and about 5 years ago I introduced the members to the atlatl and ever since we have been having an atlatl competition every Victoria Day weekend camp. Our reenacting time period is 1750 – 1850 but not many members knew about atlatls until I brought them. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of our friendly get together in the small village of Ameliasburg, just south of Bellevile, Ontario. This year the Victoria Day weekend falls on May 18 – 20 We have tomahawk and knife throwing, archery, tea boil using flint and steel, children’s games and of course, atlatl competition. I use the ISAC target but it usually stays up all weekend because we’re not very adept and would probably have starved had we lived 5,000 years ago. But we are well fed…..the highlight of the weekend is the potluck dinner on Saturday night. ISACs will be held on Sunday.
